Consecrate Yourselves Daily — Galatians 2:20

Once a year, perhaps as a New Year’s resolution, an individual may commit themselves to God. Some, once a quarter, when attending a beautiful communion service. Once a month, attending church to hear their favorite choir, another may decide to follow Jesus more closely. Even still, some may infer their dedication by attending church every weekend.

Consider this, the biblical standard: Daily. Jesus commands it of those who would follow him, “Take up his cross daily” (Luke 9:23). Simply heralded by Paul, “I die daily” (1 Corinthians 13:31). I cringe to think of how many professed followers of Christ ignore this directive. Such ignorance excels to the height of egregious lukewarmness when we realize that the declarative words are readily available.

Speak life right now. Start today, then tomorrow, the day after, and every day. In the morning, the moment you realize you are alive, declare it: “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” Galatians 2:20
